In 1970, author Ed White was in the U.S. Army and assigned to Kagnew Station, in Asmara, Ethiopia (now Eritrea). During his tour of duty in Africa, White met a little girl named Letekidan, who has occupied a special place in his heart for over 30 years.
Ed White returned to Eritrea in 2001, after being away for thirty years. The touching story of his ongoing friendship with Letekidan and her family is captured in his second book An African Treasure – A True Story from the Horn of Africa. This true story details how the little girl, who grew up in war-torn Eritrea and Ethiopia, changed his life forever.
